#hashtag Let’s do it #rightnow

What are hashtags?

According to Urban DictionaryIf you have been on Twitter, you may have seen a “hashtag.” To put it simply, a hashtag is simply a way for people to search for tweets that have a common topic and to begin a conversation. For example, if you search on #LOST (or #Lost or #lost because it’s not case-sensitive), you’ll get a list of tweets related to the TV show. What you won’t get are tweets that say “I lost my wallet yesterday” because “lost” isn’t preceded by the hashtag.

hash tag is a word or grouped (an unspaced) phrase prefixed with the hash symbol (“#“). These tagged words, phrases are used on social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram) for social networking and appear in sentences or messages as e.g. @Asianfoodtrail #Live #Travel #Food #andmuchmore).

Using the hashtag

Use this symbol “#” makes it easier to filter out messages with the same topic on one specific medium, it does not interchange with other platforms nor does it links to graphics. It is, however, a fun and effective way to highlight topics of daily events and news, aggregating and creating conversations. On Instagram platform it is an absolute must to use #hashtags with a maximum of 30#tags, believe it on average they receive => 3 times as many likes compared to users who only use a few tags instead. Thus proving a very strong correlation between tags and likes.

As a rule of thumb, always search for the “hashtag” you plan on using before you ever use it. You do NOT want to be confronted with a social media disaster to be made painfully aware that a hashtag is hijacked or harmful. Above all avoid overusing the “#” in all your social media messages as made very clear in the video of Tonight Show “#Hashtag” episode with Jimmy Fallon & Justin Timberlake.

#hashtag correctly

Achieve better results with social media by following hashtag etiquette, has published an overview titled “Etiquette” with a summary of how-to articles explaining hashtags and use in social networking and platforms. Andrew Harasewych owner of Socialize Me has written a “Hashtag how-to guide with infographics“, how to simply remember this guide, be prepared, and #hashtag with confidence. #HaveFun 🙂

Share a bread recipe and tips

I’ve tried making soda bread before but couldn’t get a nice end result, so I browsed around on the internet and the best tip I read with recipe was shared on a sub group befittingly named Soda bread – The Art of Bread Google+ communities. The recipe is shared from Food52 here is the link to Peggy’s authentic Irish Soda bread with raisins, the only thing I changed was adding 1 cup of raisins instead of 1½ cup but that’s per every baker’s taste.

Without a doubt this recipe is a keeper, although I had to adjust the baking time due to my oven. The secret is simple, used the members advice from the soda bread group “do not over knead” to heart. I slightly stirred and gently round shaped it in glass baking dish. It worked;-)! Had guests coming over, served it fresh from the oven with real butter but everyone enjoyed the smell and texture as it was served. Make my day (morning!)!! Assembling and just bringing it together 15 min, in a pre-heated oven 45min, my older combi-oven took a bit longer 55-60min, all-in-all you’ll have fresh baked bread within a hour 😉

Southeast Asia food memory, apps & books

Sharing southeast Asia food memory, apps & books. I had taken photo’s between stages of cooking and edited with Picsart smartphone app. In the spur of the moment, I shared it with Google Communities and what better compliment to receive responses from fellow foodies and ‘locals’ :-).

Fish head curry

Sometimes you just need your butt kicked to get going, the intention of planning to do isn’t going to cut it but the action does. Chinese New Year was the opening to start downloading photo’s from my smartphone or better said upload them and start pecking on my keyboard to post images with information or other random food for thought. I had created a while ago Asianfoodtrail Google+ page and never finished the details to go live, but cooking home cooked comfort food just did the trick to get inspired with a mouth full of flavour to boost things up.

Over the years I have accumulated favourite recipes clippings taken from magazines and as an avid reader, collected old and new cookery hardcover or digital books. Last week I stumbled on to a fresh market with local fish stalls in Leiden, The Netherlands. As a fish, nation devouring famous raw ‘herring’ nothing special, but big codfish heads definitely are far from being called speciality.

Too bad, but lucky for us asked the fish monger for the largest pieces with one dish only in my mind. Hoping to duplicate the flavour explosion I experienced in Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia and at Muthu’s on Racecourse Road Singapore. You might have guessed the very well known “Fish head curry”. Surprised the family with this wonderful dish, a little south-east Asian feast on a Dutch winter’s dinner table. Visit Google+ Asianfoodtrail and share your favourite south-east asian comfort foods or other food memories. The gift of giving is sharing the good thing together.
